Yellowstone Riverview Cabin
Gardiner, Montana, United States 59030
New flat screen TV in the den! Yellowstone Riverview Cabin was built in 2007. It's located only 9.5 miles (a mere 10 minute drive) from Yellowstone Park's original entrance in Gardiner, Montana. Riverview Cabin is the perfect place for fishermen, naturalists, wildlife enthusiasts and photographers. Wildlife, such as big horn sheep, elk, and deer can be viewed in close proximitiy to the cabin on a regular basis. This 1440 sq. ft. three bedroom/one bathroom vacation home sleeps 8 people. It is located off of Highway 89 and has beautiful views of the Yellowstone river, Yankee Jim Canyon and the surrounding mountains. WiFi is available for your use. Rafting the Yellowstone River can be enjoyed close the vacation home just a quarter mile away. No smoking please. This vacation home does allow pets according to the owners' guidelines.
Wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, and young and old will love being just minutes form the two million acre playground known as Yellowstone Park - a unique landscape where an immense volcanic cauldron fuels a bubble of fire from deep inside the earth, resulting in the greatest concentration of geysers in the world; a varied wilderness of forests, lakes, rivers, mountains, plains, and canyons, inhabited by bears, wolves, elk, deer, moose, and every other animal species you can think of.
Whether it's horseback riding, whitewater rafting, hiking or fishing the Yellowstone River and its many streams, creeks, lakes and ponds, you'll find it all right at your doorstep at Yellowstone Riverview Cabin!
This is a great place for a winter vacation, because it's close to Gardiner, which is the only entrance to the Park that is car-accessible year round. That plowed road remains open all winter, all the way through to Tower Falls, the Lamar Valley and Cooke City. Many groomed trails for cross-country skiing are located along this road. You can take a guided snowmobile tour or a snow coach tour into Yellowstone leaving from Best Western at Mammoth Hot Springs. There is also an ice-skating rink in Mammoth. Another fun activity is dog sledding which you can do at the Chico Hot Springs Resort, just 25 miles north of this vacation home.
If you love the rugged beauty of the Rocky Mountains, and look forward to visiting Yellowstone National Park with all of its natural beauty and wildlife, you're sure to enjoy your stay at Yellowstone Riverview Cabin!

This rental property was just what we needed, and it would be hard to find something better! There were so many details that truly made our stay enjoyable! Truly appreciated the privacy (but also would have enjoyed meeting the owners). If you need a home away from home, look no further!
My family and I visited the cabin Labor Day week. The cabin is beautiful with many details and was very comfortable. The location could not have been more perfect and we had a beautiful view of the river and mountains. We saw bald eagles fishing up and down the river and elk calling in the background. The North Entrance to Yellowstone was 10 minutes away where we saw abundant wildlife. The highlight of our trip was seeing two gray wolves in Lamar Valley. I would highly recommend this cabin and location. You won't regret it!
John and El are some of the nicest people I have ever met. The cabin was great, clean and as "advertised". Sage and Jack were a joy to be around, Skippy and Scooter already miss them. So do I. The stained glass is fantastic. John/El all the local information you gave us really paid off and made the trip that much more interesting. I would strongly recommend this cabin to couples or families. Be sure to bring the dogs they will love it. Ours did. Thanks Billy, Sunny, Skippy and Scooter. PS El, I will send pictures when I get the glass hung.
We had an amazing time in this beautiful state! The "cabin" was perfect for our family of four. The views of the river and mountains are breathtaking. We spent the majority of our time exploring YNP and we were so thrilled when seeing all the wildlife including 12 black bears and cubs and a mama grizzly and her 3 cubs twice! YNP is just an amazing park to come back to again and again! Sage and Jack were the best at greeting us after a long day. What a wonderful and relaxing time we had at the cabin. Thanks for everything!
Thank you so much for a beautiful stay in your wonderful state! Our family had a wonderful time and appreciate your kindness. Highlights for us included viewing your lovely stained glass art, eating picnic dinners with a view, touring Yellowstone, fly fishing, visiting "Bear Encounters,” seeing the Gateway Museum, Gemstone Valley, river rafting and fitting in relax time too. We would love to visit you in the future!
We have had the most memorable week here in Yellowstone National Park. Thank you for sharing your amazing works of art with us. We look forward to our beautiful frame for the family photo wall. This "cabin" has everything we could possibly need for a week of family time. We used the guidebooks you provided especially the Yellowstone Expedition Guide for everyday hiking. Highlights of the week include elk bugling across the river in the field, seeing bears, coyote, prairie dogs, marmots, bison, snakes!!!, pronghorn, river rafting for our family in class 3 rapids with the Yellowstone River Company, horseback riding in the beautiful backcountry of Yellowstone (one of our girls truly discovered a passion for horses). The Hellroaring Creek Bridge was amazing and a great hike! Thank you both again so very much - we loved the calm.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful "cabin" with us. We enjoyed our daily adventures in YNP and the comfort and convenience your home provided. We will miss relaxing here as well as visiting with you and playing with Sage and Jack. It was a wonderful place for a family vacation and we appreciated that you understood the value of having a pet along and accepted our family dog! We created many memories and stories. The highlights of our trip included the bear sightings at Tower & Dunraven Pass, viewing elk, deer, various birds and wildflowers everywhere. We witnessed bison crossing the road in Lamar Valley and even a bison on the boardwalk at Mud Volcano. The Hellroaring Creek hike was a great escape and worth the extra effort. Thank you again for your hospitality and we look forward to returning one day to the Yellowstone Riverview Cabin! Thanks so much!
What an amazing week in Yellowstone! We got to enjoy elk, pronghorns, deer, bison, a mama bear and her cubs and several other black bears. We loved your cozy home! It was the perfect location for us to venture into Yellowstone each day! So many wonderful memories for our family - we will be talking about this for years! Our youngest is still talking about the elk that helped itself to enjoy a porch in Gardiner. Thank you for opening your home to our family. We thoroughly enjoyed it! Perfect for our family of 8 to enjoy. Can't wait till we can come back! We love Yellowstone and Gardiner!
Thank you very much for this incredible cabin. The stained glass artwork throughout the house was amazing, the home was very nicely furnished, we we also thoroughly enjoyed the daily visits from your dogs Sage & Jack. We had a great time, and your home was in a perfect location for our week long Yellowstone Park vacation. We loved all the information of suggested things to do and recent animal sightings that was left for us. Listening to the Elk bugle every evening and being able to sit outside and watch them was heaven. This was a vacation that my family will never forget.
Dear John and El, Thank you for welcoming us to your lovely home. We had a lovely time bonding, cooking, sharing meals and resting for the last four days, as well as exploring Yellowstone National Park. Although we missed seeing Old Faithful we were blessed to see Mammoth Springs and other hot springs, mountains and valleys as well as the wildlife that freely roam the park at this time of the year. We were especially excited to witness a mother black bear with her two cubs grazing near the Lamar Valley. It was worth all the trek and trip from miles and miles away (two of us came all the way from the Philippines and two from New York City). Also, we were so impressed by your lovely glass art works - they are truly amazing!
What a beautiful place to spend the holiday...Cozy with tons of wildlife right outside. We heard the wolves on the first night! Thank You!! and Happy New Year's! We had a great stay and thank you for your hospitality! Nicole Thank you! Haven and Greyson A wonderful Christmas experience! Barb
We spent just over a week in the house in late September - an ideal time to see Yellowstone, after the summer crowds. The house is about 9 miles north of the Gardiner MT entrance to the park, so it is convenient if your activities are mostly there. The house is comfortable and the owners, John and El, who live on the property were a delight. They loaned us bear-spray, which is not something you can fly with, and is essential if you're doing any hikes in the area (both black bears and grizzlies are about). They were also very helpful in suggesting side-trips, like the Tom Miner trail, and a relaxing soak at Chico Hot Springs, which are outside the park, to the north.
This was our first time using VRBO, and we loved the house! It was clean, quiet, and luxurious. The owners thoughtfully included many touches, such as a list of recent YNP animal sightings. The house was also beautifully decorated in virtually every nook and cranny... including the owner's artistry. Located super close to a water adventures company as well. Highly recommend.
Thank you so much for the hospitality you have extended to us. Your home is in the perfect location for a long Yellowstone explore. We so enjoyed the park and spent 8 of our 9 days hiking there. The other day, upon your advice, we took the Tom Miner Trail - another great hike! We appreciate the loan of your bear spray though fortunately we had no opportunity to use it. A good time was truly had by all! Sincerely~
Thank you for this beautiful, beautiful home. Our kids had a great time staying here. Thank you for being so thoughtful and provide everything we might need. We had a great time visiting YNP as well as staying here. ~ Chan's Family from Toronto Thank you for such a warm and beautiful home and we all enjoyed staying here! Your workplace upstairs is so amazing and glad to have a chance to visit there. Glad to meet with you and your lovely dogs, Sage and Jack. Hope we can come and stay here again! ~ Cheng's Family from Hong Kong
We have so enjoyed your beautiful cabin, your lovely artwork and the warm company of you and your dogs. In fact, as I write this my daughter is sitting on the bench out front waiting for Sage, Jack and River to come out to play - her wish was just granted! Three days has not been long enough so I hope we will be back to enjoy this little slice of heaven again soon. Some of our favorites from this trip include the Boiling River at the end of the day, rafting down the Yellowstone and horseback riding in the back country. I also will miss the mountain air, starry skies and the bugling elk on the other side of the river. We enjoyed great pizza at the KBar and the Lighthouse was perfect for burgers and pasta. All in all, the people were friendly and welcoming and every experience was positive. Thank you so much! Mike, Kristin, Ted and Lily El & John, You guys are the most kind, warmhearted and welcoming hosts! We have enjoyed the wonders of YNP while staying in your lovely home! Thank for the advice of where to go and letting us play with your dogs! Thanks so much, Teddy El, your artwork is amazing and John you are such a nice, cool guy! Your dogs are wonderful and your cabin is amazing. Thanks so much for letting us stay here! I will miss it! Lily
We loved our stay! We were a group of 8 (two families of four) and the cabin was clean and comfortable, with plenty of space for us to cook and eat and sleep and relax. The kitchen was well equipped, and the kids enjoyed the bunk beds too. The cabin is beautifully situated overlooking the river. We enjoyed seeing rabbits outside in the morning, and elk at night. It was great to be so close to the north entrance of the park. Highlights of our trip included watching the bison in Lamar Valley, seeing the Artist's Paint Pots, and of course Mammoth Hot Springs and Old Faithful. Such a magical place!
great family home. relaxing. very clean, and best of all pet friendly. Perfect distance to Yellowstone. 1 bathroom for 5 females and 2 males was a bit challenging but we managed. Be careful with the fire extinguisher in the kitchen it's in an awkward spot, it’s in a “high traffic” area and we kept bumping into it. Will definitely consider returning. Thank you
Thank you so much for letting us stay at your wonderful place. We enjoyed ourselves so very much! Your cabin is beautiful with its view and amazing art pieces. You guys are super nice and so easy to talk to! Thanks for the rocks and petrified trees! The girls loved them but not quite as much as they loved your dogs. Thanks for letting them play with the dogs too! This is one of our favorite places on earth! We saw lots of black bears, elk, buffalo, moose and much more! We had a wonderful time and will be leaving with many, many terrific memories! Thanks so much~
Two from Texas and two from Alabama on a journey far and wide. From Elk to Llama. We're filled with great pride to be a part of this spectacular countryside. Gardiner is a step back in time and a wonderful refuge from hectic city life. They say the Beartooth Highway is the best in the country but these four believe that North Yellowstone rules!!! Enjoyed this warm and welcoming home especially Jack and Sage (the owners' dogs). John is a great host and Elenor is very engaging. We plan to come back your way.
We really enjoyed our time staying here and our visits with you. Our family was very comfortable sleeping, hanging out and cooking in this spacious "cabin." The area is so beautiful and we enjoyed our hike in the petrified forest in Tom Miner - appreciate you loaning us the bear spray - I felt eyes on me the whole hike! We have been fortunate to explore the area and see a bear, osprey Mom & chicks, bison, moose, elk and pronghorn - WOW! Wonderful memories and pictures - Lamar Valley was wonderful. We hiked Trout Lake and the wildflowers were unbelievable! We saw Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Old Faithful and, of course, Mammoth Hot Springs. We ate at Rosie's Diner in Gardiner and the Lighthouse Restaurant - both were very good! We are off today to continue our adventures and sincerely hope to be back. Good health to both of you and thanks again for the wonderful hospitality. PS: Sage and Jack are such happy dogs - there were a joy!
Thank you so much for your kind hospitality! We had such a great time and your home was a perfect retreat after the park. The kids had a wonderful time playing with Jack and Sage. Oh, and thanks for putting in that order for the stars last night. We were worried we wouldn't see any! It was amazing!! I hope our "OOO's & Aaaahhs" didn't keep you up! Thanks for everything!
Thank you for a relaxing place to put our feet up after our adventures in Yellowstone! It was so nice to have a place that we could cook a good meal and relax. The stained glass throughout the cabin is absolutely beautiful! We had an amazing get-away. Thanks for the amazing place to relax.
The home and stained glass work is so beautiful - it was wonderful to have such a peaceful and comfortable place to be after our busy travels. Traveling for 3 weeks with 4 young children can be stressful but this is the first place we've been to that allowed us to sit, breathe and reflect in tranquility. PS: The tour books really helped too.
El and John, We absolutely loved coming home each night to our wonderful, comfy home after a long day taking in Yellowstone - it became our priority to make it home in time to get the grill going, sit at the picnic table and be together watching the elk come down in the field. We loved talking with you and playing with the dogs and feeling truly at home in this beautiful place. I will always remember the outline of the mountains in front of us. Our final night, tonight, we had the gift of a beautiful sunset. I can't say enough how special this trip has been to our family and your cabin rooted us in a safe place while we explored so many new things. Happy we took the advice to make it to the Tetons! We did see a bison jam in Lamar and so many wonderful memories leave with us. Take care both of you! I hope to come back someday. XOXO L.M. PS: Thank you both for this treasure-away-from home! You both have made us feel so comfortable here in your "barn!" I've really enjoyed visiting with you guys, sharing experiences and stories and playing with Jack and Sage. If you ever venture thru Reno please look me up - I'd love to see you again. M.M.
The cabin is absolutely lovely. We appreciated how much room there is for everyone to spread out - both inside and outside while enjoying a week of family time. The beds are super comfy (our boys are now asking for flannel sheets when we get home). It was amazing to see so many elk across the river every night. And, of course, we loved being so close to Yellowstone. Thanks for being so respectful as hosts in every way possible. You have a terrific set up here - we are very envious! All our thanks~
We had a wonderful week at the Park. After a long day of hiking and wildlife viewing it was so nice to come back to the cabin. Traveling with three teenagers can be challenging and all the space made it much easier. Thanks also for sharing all the beautiful stained glass artwork and park resources.
After years of camping and trailering this was a welcome respite. Knowing we had a clean, warm place to come home to every evening was restful after a day of sightseeing. Your house is in the perfect spot. We loved having a place that we knew our dogs would be safe while we were away. Our beds were warm and comfortable. The kitchen is perfect for making family dinners and the view of the mountains and elk from every window was a treat. Thank you!
Kudos to John and El on providing the cleanest home we have ever vacationed in! Our week in Yellowstone provided all 50 degree temperature variations. We had shorts and T shirt weather and a snow storm that dusted the tops of the mountain peaks. We were able to hook a few fish in the upper Gibbon and Firehole. We fished and hiked through several storms which for us was enjoyable. Every evening on our way back there was the inevitable elk jam in Mammoth. One night one of the bulls was ramming cars. The rangers and park staff professionally managed the people and animals to get us through unscathed. The Yellowstone Trails book by Marschall you have helped us the most in selecting trails. Overall a very pleasant week. P.S. El, we really like the trout on the great room windows.
What a gem! We have had a wonderful vacation and loved the house. You provided all the comforts of home. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. We enjoyed our evening chats with you and the kids could not wait to show you their treasures every night! Yellowstone was breathtaking. We saw so much wildlife … elk, bison, bears, pronghorns and the list goes on and on. Such an amazing diversity in the Park from forests to thermals to rocky canyons to waterfalls. Amazing!! We hope to come back some day and your home would be the first place to stop. Thanks for everything~
We loved our stay here and felt like we landed in a beautiful museum inside and the great big beautiful Big Sky outside! We saw eagles and pronghorns from the front yard. Yellowstone did not disappoint and the river was a great source of fun too! To paraphrase an Eskimo saying "It is hard to talk about the mountains with a mouth so small." We are humbled by the beauty of the people and nature abounds. Blessings~
Thank you for the lovely accommodations - our grandchildren called the lodge a "mini-mansion." We were brought so close to the creative work of our Father. We offer humble praises to our God for affording us this opportunity. While here we toured Lewis and Clark Caverns, saw several bald eagles, elk, bison and the most majestic mountains we have ever seen. We also experienced Old Faithful and the freshest air in America. To our wonderful landlords...you deserve special blessings and we will add you to our perpetual prayer list. Be Blessed!
We really enjoyed our 3 nights at your cabin. Your artwork is amazing and your dogs are so sweet! Thank you for recommendations on day trips near your cabin. The Tom Miner trail was our favorite. We saw lots of antelope on the Yankee Jim Canyon trip. If we make it back this way we would love to stay again. We wish we could have met the artist and maybe get a tour of the studio. The night time views of the loft area were our favorite part of the home. Many Thanks!
My wife and I spent a week in the cabin and used it as our "home away from home" for our daily excursions into Yellowstone National Park. It's an easy 10 minute drive to the arched gate of the North entrance. The home itself is perfect for a couple or family. Comfortable sofas and beds, a bright open living and dining area, and a well configured kitchen. The stained glass accents were impressive (we bought a piece at the store in town). We can recommend The Lighthouse restaurant just a mile up the road from the cabin. Ate there twice and had excellent meals both times.
We had a wonderful visit and truly loved sharing your home! Currently, moving cross country (NJ to Seattle), it was especially lovely to be in a home for a few days. Yellowstone was glorious and we enjoyed hiking as many spots as we could with two little kids in tow! We saw Old Faithful twice, climbed a steep side trail to see Prismatic Spring, hiked down to Red Rock to see the Lower Falls (and even made it back up!) and saw so many animals and babies. Perhaps the most exciting (good and bad) was the sudden appearance of a black bear on our hike in Mammoth on the Beaver Ponds Trail. We had just crossed the beginning creek when he came down the hill towards us and just kept coming. We had to go down and off the steep hill to get away...not taking chances with a 4 year old and a 10 month old! So make sure to bring some bear spray! We loved it and love the memories.
We had the best vacation and really enjoyed staying here. Everything was just like in the pictures on the internet. The stained glass work is beautiful as is the whole house. Our family saw lots of animals in Yellowstone and across the river from the house. One of our favorite activities was horseback riding in Yellowstone - right outside Mammoth Hot Springs. The view while horseback riding was breathtaking. One of the highlights of our trip was seeing the baby animals. We saw a mother bear and her cub and several baby buffalo and elk. They were so cute! After sightseeing it was nice to come home to a real house and not a tiny cabin or hotel room. We could really relax!
We loved staying here in your beautiful vacation home. If was very quiet and peaceful. We saw lots of wildlife in Yellowstone and took hundreds of pictures! Our favorite place to eat was the Lighthouse Restaurant right up the highway. We had wonderful service and one of the best meals we've ever had. We like your dog, Sage, he's very friendly! We really enjoyed our stay. Thanks!
John and El, Thank you for such a beautiful space for us to rest and spend some time recharging our batteries. We can't say enough good things about the cabin and area and overall vacation experience. Thanks again, and we hope to be back again and possibly bring friends with us!
What a pure delight your place is! We loved our visit to the park but also loved having your hillside cabin as our home base. Comfortably and thoughtfully equipped with all that we needed with the added pleasure of your creative, skillful touches of beauty everywhere. Our crew loved just hanging out in the evenings, playing cards and talking. Thank you for providing the perfect base for our holiday. PS: Thanks for the "locals" tips - very helpful!
Dear El and John, I really did enjoy your house. You are an amazing artist and I really love your artwork. We bought some of your stained glass and I can't wait till we hang it up in our kitchen. We saw lots of wildlife and went on a lot of hikes. Tired, we came back to your house and slept like a baby. I really love Montana and Yellowstone and thought Old Faithful was really cool. Thanks again!!! (son, age 12)
This was our first trip to YNP, the property is close enough to get to everything in a reasonable drive, yet allowed an escape to tranquility each evening. John and El are very helpful as others have stated. The property is quite clean, and readily accomodated our party of six plus our small dog. Interesting hiking locales and river rafting just north of the park are nearby. Paradise valley is aptly named and was a beautiful surprise. Gardiner seemed a more genuine town than West Yellowstone and offers several reasonable restaurants. GTNP and YNP are bucket list worthy and I would not hesitate to direct friends to this property.
Dear El and John, I enjoyed my stay very much. The beds are comfy. Much better than staying in a motel. Yellowstone was fantastic and we saw three wolves, a bunch of bears and an abundance of other animals. Your house is beautiful and very nice. I hope to come again. (Daughter - 13 years old) ~ PS: Your cabin provided us with a home away from home. The stained glass artistry is very beautiful.
Thank you, Elenor and John, for a wonderful vacation. The house is beautiful, the scenes are amazing and your hospitality a joy. We hiked and ran around the mountains surrounding the house and we loved it. My Dad climbed for hours almost every day. The proximity to all the natural wonders is unbeatable. Horseback riding, Chico Hot Springs, walking and just hanging out and playing in the house - we loved all of it. The space was really perfect like so many others who have written in here. We would like to come back again, maybe this summer when we could do more outside, but even staying home was pretty great. ~ I (the grandfather) made it to the cave on Sphinx Mountain above our cabin. No bear - it's about 20 feet deep and the view from the top of that great rock formation is awesome. I went to the top four times. Hallelujah! Knees hurt but well worth it. About two hours to get there but worth every slide! The whole family had a great time and Sage is one good dog!
We thought that the cabin was perfect and the first day my eight year old kept running around saying how cool everything was and asking if we could live there forever because it was his dream home. My eleven year old and my sixteen year old also thought the cabin was incredible. We stayed there with my parents and my three kids. It was the perfect place to spend the Christmas holiday and the heated floors made everyone feel so cozy. The stained glass is just as beautiful as all of the reviews we had read. Yellowstone in winter was amazing and unique and we skied to Tower Falls and the upper loop at Mammoth. We also took a snow coach into Old Faithful which was really fun for everyone and got some amazing pictures of buffalo and elk. On the ski we even saw a badger! Being able to come home and have enough space for all seven of us and cook a great meal (we cooked a huge turkey dinner for Christmas) was priceless. We met John (the owner) and he was very nice. Our doggies enjoyed it as well and they were nice enough to let us bring more than one pup. Our only compliant was that we could not stay longer. Nobody wanted to go home and we thought that a week and a half would have been better than a week!
August 23-26, 2011 Thank you for letting us stay here in your amazing house. Even though we have stayed here for a short time, I wish that I had come here earlier and we will come here in the future. The house is very beautiful, from the objects hanging on the walls to the stained glass windows, but I feel the best part of this is your hospitality including your dog Sage. All in all spending these four days in "the barn" has been superb and I hope more people will experience this. ~ Thank you so much for letting us stay in the house. It is very beautiful and the view is amazing too. Great time in Yellowstone - love the large herds of buffalo and I had a great time horseback riding. ~
What a wonderful time. So much to see but so little time. The space you provided after a day of hiking/sight seeing and bear watching was immensely relaxing and perfect for the 6 of us. The kids enjoyed the space and we really loved the back den for a few more minutes of sleep.
August 3-13, 2011 We had a great stay!!! Yellowstone was wonderful! We saw so many things we've never seen before. The animals were spectacular and the scenery was amazing. We did long hikes like the Beaver Ponds and Sheepeater Cliffs and picnicked on the hills watching the wild animals. It was so much fun! Our stay at the cabin was great. It was comfortable, clean and had an amazing view! I love the cabin and hope we can come back and stay again. It was a wonderful 10 days - also the stained glass is beautiful. Thanks ~ Dear El & John, Thanks so much for the use of this lovely cabin. We completely enjoyed our stay. We are returning the bear spray - thankfully unused! Again, our sincere thanks - we hope to return again!
August 2, 2011 ~ Our last day in Yellowstone and this beautiful home. We have enjoyed our week here tremendously. It was so nice to come back to this beautiful location at the end of a day of sightseeing. Watching the elk across the river in the morning, hearing the coyotes howl at night, watching thunderstorms roll in over the mountains...all of it was just spectacular. We drove the Beartooth Highway one day for killer scenery. Unfortunately, no bear sightings ... maybe today! Thank you so much for the hospitality. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return again in the future.
This property was even prettier in person! The photo's made us rent it, seeing it in person made us love it! The views are even more breathtaking in person. The property was spotless and had everything a guest could want. The owner was so helpful. We had a unique proplem when we arrived (not related to the property) and he helped us come up with a great solution! Because of him, we were able to enjoy our vacation without worries! I would highly recommend this property to anyone. In fact, I already have! If you visit Gardiner, don't miss this house and rafting on the Yellowstone River!
What a beautiful house - your stained glass artwork is amazing! We had a great time, very busy sightseeing in Yellowstone and a day trip to Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons - well worth the drive. We took the tram up to the top of Rendezvous Mountain and had a snowball fight in our flip flops! Horseback riding and whitewater rafting were also great adventures! We saw most of the wild animals but no wolves or bears - but they say always leave something to come back for! We also did four puzzles - three we brought from home and your eagle puzzle. Thanks for your hospitality! God bless~ PS: We recommend Yellowstone Raft Company - a great, friendly, skilled guide Alex (also from Wisconsin) for whitewater rafting. Also recommend ABO for horseback Riding - the Saddle and Paddle package worked out great for us.
Dear El and John, Our stay was fabulous! Montana is beautiful and so is your home - all the stained glass art is so pretty. We had lots of adventures in Yellowstone like hiking up a hill to see Grand Prismatic Springs in full glory, watching Old Faithful and seeing all the pools and geysers around it. We saw a cinnamon bear and a black bear running around but thankfully we weren't eaten by them. Lots of elk and buffalo too but no moose. Thank you for letting us stay at your wonderful home. PS: We finished the eagle puzzle.
The other reviews accurately highlight the many wonderful features of this home. The location is awesome, and our overall winter vacation experience was stellar! There were, however, minor shortcomings that we would have appreciated knowing. First, there is no access to the upstairs of the house; all the living space is on one floor, and the 3/4 bath would be small for a large group. Second, the house was not as clean as it should have been. There was clearly used soap in the shower, the dish drainer (there is no dishwasher) had a gray coating, the bar shelves and bedside lamps were thickly coated with dust, and pet hair was visible on the rugs. The dark shades on the bedside lamps precluded reading in bed, and the switch for the very bright overhead was across the room. Two of the three track bulbs over the chair in the living room were burned out. The sofa did not have lighting at all, and the only lighting in the tv room was a harsh overhead. Theinternet connection was iffy, even in the great room, the bedroom, and the kitchen, making it difficult to respond to business concerns. Maybe we're nitpicky, but these factors - particularly the cleanliness - definitely diminished the comfort of what is a beautiful home.
December 23-31, 2010 Thanks for your hospitality. The big red barn was the center of many wonderful Christmas memories for our extended family. Trips to the Park for wildlife watching and cross country skiing were the highlights, but Chico Hot Springs was great too.
Wow! What a great place you have here. We really enjoyed our 5 days in the 'Big Red Barn'. So relaxing and private. Hats off to you both. The beauty you have constructed is amazing. Love the location to Yellowstone. Perfect for day trips and this to come back to relax here at our home away from home. Sorry to say it is time for us to go. Our last night here is sad but we are so grateful for this opportunity to see the wonders of God all around us. Everything was just perfect! Thank you both and we will be back. God Bless you.
September 9-19, 2010 WOW... What a beautiful place you have built, created and maintained! Thank you for sharing your imagination and this grand view of the valley with us - we really appreciate all of it. We spent 10 days here but way too short to do what we wanted to do! I was hoping to take a class and see how you make stained glass or pottery but we so quickly ran out of time. On the bright side we got to see so many cool wild animals. Besides the bald eagles and the grizzlies, on our very last hike yesterday in the park we also saw a big black wolf!! He was just 100 feet from us. These memories will be with us forever and so will the happy moments our family got to experience while staying in this 'Red Barn!' Again, thank you very much for everything. PS: I finally had a chance to visit Yellowstone Gallery (in Gardiner) and gladly picked up a beautiful (stained glass) dragonfly Elenor created. It will be cherished in our home for years to come. Most sincerely,
July 25-31, 2010 I loved this house. I just wish that we could have seem your art room because you make great decorations for the house. My favorite is the wolf at the top left window in the living room! Ryann Rainville I am awfully sad to have to leave tomorrow. We have to go back to boring old Yakima, WA. I loved seeing all of the animals in and out of the park! We were all very disappointed to not see any wolves besides caged up ones at the Wolf and Grizzly Discovery Center. Your home is very beautiful. The beds and couches were very comfy. Two days ago I was playing and dropped the fire extinguisher on my foot and left a huge bump and many bruises. But everything is really great here. Thank you so much. Rebecca Rainville We leave early tomorrow and I am very sad to go! The house, Yellowstone, people, animals and everything else was great. You guys are obviously very talented. While in the park we attempted to count the wildlife - it came to about eight sheep, six bears, four wolves, two coyotes, fourteen pronghorn and many, many, many bison, elk and deer. It was such a great experience and I loved everything (except the sulfur smells). Thanx for absolutely everything! Rachel Rainville Today is our last day here and we have thoroughly enjoyed our week here - the house was just right and it was nice to have a comfy and relaxing couch to lounge on after a long day at the park! Beds were cozy - I have decided to buy a ceiling fan when I get home to install in our bedroom! Love all the stone and tile work too. The park was fun - saw just about everything as far as animals go. One of our favorite sights was definitely Grand Prismatic Spring! Please tell Kim thanks for the stories! (Kim is the wrangler who rents out downstairs - takes folks on long pack trips all summer/quite a character.)
July 11-18, 2010 Thank you for your hospitality and we loved the "Barn" and, of course, your furry friends. Also, thanks for the travel tips especially Tom Miner Campground. Good luck in your future plans and God Bless you. Jim & Julie Your home was lovely and we enjoyed all the beautiful art work. You both are so very talented. Thank you for sharing with all who come to stay in this wonderful mountain get-away. May the Lord Bless you and keep you, Jim & Novella
June 20-26, 2010 We had a wonderful time and we had everything we needed. The house is beautiful and VERY COMFORTABLE. This was our first family vacation and I don't think we could have picked a better place! We are "dog" people and enjoyed them when they came over to visit with us. What a wonderful gift to be blessed with the ability to create such beautiful stained glass artwork. Thank you so much for allowing us to make this our home away from home! My youngest son and I really enjoyed the OTO Ranch and Jardine mine and now I'm hooked on huckleberry ice cream. We hate to leave! Penny, Ron, Brian, Greg, Kinsey, Phoenix and Sarah I love this house, it is awesome. When I first came here I thought I was at a famous person's house. My favorite part of it was the stone floor in the shower and the bunk beds. Kinsey
June 12-18, 2010 What a fantastic trip! Your place added to the excitement. Nathan couldn't wait to come "home" to play with his new dogs. He cried last night because we had to leave. Beartooth Highway was one of our favorites! Very much enjoyed all the wildlife especially the grizzly and cubs! Very much enjoyed the Canyon of the Yellowstone - what a sight everywhere. LOVED the stars at night, well worth staying up for. Thanks for your hospitality and the life long memories!
April 30 - May 3, 2010This was a great 3 days away. We had a very nice time and the home was great and just right for our needs. Thank you for letting us have our girls with us - when traveling with dogs it is always hard to find a good space for them to play - this was perfect! Love the art - very inspiring. Thank you for the last minute arrangements.
6-21-09 The trip has been wonderful - the house and scenery are gorgeous! The once in a lifetime experience has been completely worthwhile. Thank you so much for your hospitality. PS: I loved playing with Thor! (This is the owners' dog). He is such a sweetheart and it is wonderful he has finally been given the home he deserves. Kate (daughter) As Kate said it has all been great. Thanks for opening your place to guests. I look forward to recalling great memories when I see my new stained glass pieces!
August 29-September 5, 2009 Thank you for sharing your lovely cabin - it was a wonderful stay and very enjoyable. We enjoyed seeing your studio. Our trip has been wonderful. Everyday was a new adventure. Thank you all for our wonderful and exciting vacation - too short of course. Thanks again,
July 14 - 18, 2009 We had a fabulous time and we enjoyed the cabin. We were able to hike and find petrified wood pieces for everyone. Very exciting when the bucks came to our front window during dinner. Be sure to go out and look at the sky at night - an unbelievable sight. Thanks so much.
July 8-14, 2009 We absolutely loved our week at Yellowstone. The Hellroaring Trail to Lamar Valley provided excellent wildlife - moose, bear, elk, coyote. The Falls were amazing as was Old Faithful. Mammoth, Basin, Norris and swimming in the hot springs at Boiling Creek!! So much to see and do, one time here was hardly enough. Thanks for sharing your home hospitality and awesome collection of music. We really had a great time at the cabin. It was such a great location.
July 4-7, 2009 Incredible view, wonderful home, the owner's artwork is amazing. We love the peacefulness of the mornings and the beautiful sunsets too! The west is the best. God has blessed us with time with our family and enjoying one of his masterpieces! Beautiful. Thank you for helping us make precious memories. We were 100% pleased with our rental!
June 24-27, 200 I really liked living next to the dogs. Sage was my favorite and I played catch with him. I also loved the rock collection. Eric - Age 8 Sage is the most playful dog in the world. I liked the house because of the paintings and I also liked the river down the hill. Medha - Age 7 We had a great time and wished we could stay longer.
June 6-12, 2009 Dear El & John, Just want to say thank you for all your hospitality and for letting us stay at your awesome cabin. It was great to have all the amenities provided. It was truly a home away from home. We saw bison, grizzlies, black bear, moose, big horn, elk, antelope, coyote, black wolf and deer. We saw basically all of Yellowstone and couldn't have done it without the Yellowstone Expedition Guide you provided - best guide ever. Oh yeah, it's a great view from your cabin.
December 27-29, 2008 Dear El & John, We are so happy to have found your home for rent for our first trip to Yellowstone. It has great warmth and charm and was our home away from home. You are a very talented stained glass artist and I spent quite a bit of time looking at the detail in your pieces of art. Thank you for the plate of desserts that waited for us upon our arrival. As I am an interior designer by profession, I really appreciate your decorating and faux finishing on the walls. An "A+" retreat! Happy New Year to you and your families. Also a big thank you for allowing our dogs to join us on this trip. They loved the wildlife in the park as we did too! Blessings!
