Butterfly Ridge Vacation Home
Mariposa, California, United States 95338
Beautifully located, with breathtaking views of the surrounding Sierra Foothills, this comfortable 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 1800 sq.ft. home is only 7 miles northeast of the historic town of Mariposa and only 29 miles from the west entrance of Yosemite Park. New flooring has been installed throughout the home in March of 2015. Butterfly Ridge Vacation Home sleeps 8 people, with one queen-size bed, two double beds, a queen-size sleeper couch and two floor mattresses. Enjoy the expansive views from the large front patio and partake of the fruit of the backyard grape vines and fruit trees in season. This quiet and very private 5 acre lot is home to deer families and abundant wildlife. You won't believe the clear views of the stars from the patio at 3200 ft. above sea level.
Amenities include central heating and A/C, a large game room with 9 ft. pool table, family games and books, and a 52 inch LCD TV with satellite TV, Playstation 2 and Blu-ray/DVD movies. For the little ones there is a play table in a corner of the game room with little cars, roads, people, castles and trees. There is also a teddy bear, a ball and games for small children. A crib and high chair are available. Free WiFi is available - just bring your electronic devices.
We provide brochures, maps and books about the area that will help you to plan your stay. Things to see and do in the area include dozens of incredibly scenic places and hikes in Yosemite Park, rafting on the Merced River, swimming, fishing, mountain biking or walking along the Merced River at Briceburg, swimming and boating at Bass Lake or Lake McSwain, and interesting walks and hikes in the Mariposa area. Mariposa also hosts concerts in the Art Park every summer weekend and has several art galleries. The county park in Mariposa is a great place for families to visit, providing a large swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball court, picnic areas, a skateboard park and a concert venue.
SPRING is the best time to see waterfalls at their peak in Yosemite Park. The snow remaining in the highest elevations melts and flows into streams that feed the waterfalls. Other than an occasional rain, you'll find very pleasant weather and smaller crowds for hiking. Some higher elevation hikes may be closed until late spring. This is a great time to raft the Wild and Scenic Merced River, or take amazing wildflower hikes in the Merced River Canyon or Hite's Cove, outside the park (March-May). Family fun at the Butterfly Festival in Mariposa (first weekend in May) or try to win the $10,000 prize at the Annual Fishing Derby at Bass Lake (first weekend in May).
SUMMER offers months of dry, warm, sunny weather. All hiking trails are open throughout the park. The high elevation roads to Glacier Point and Tioga Pass are open. This is a good time for horseback riding, morning hiking, bicycling, and even Merced River swimming in Yosemite and Briceberg Canyon. Bass Lake is another great place for swimming, boating and hiking. (Boat rentals available). The Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad is a fun family experience. Ride in open railroad cars, pulled along historic tracks through a beautiful forest, by a steam locomotive. Enjoy musical events on weekend evenings in the Art Park in Mariposa.
AUTUMN is a wonderful time to hike in Yosemite! The gorgeous fall colors last for months. Cooler but comfortable weather and smaller crowds make this time of year special and invigorating! Some waterfalls have diminished flows, but Vernal and Nevada Falls are still spectacular! Plenty of sunshine despite an occasional rain. Enjoy the beautiful greening foothills at one of the local ziplines. Family fun at the 4-day County Fair at the Mariposa Co. Fair Grounds over Labor Day weekend. Amazing natural wonders at the CA State Mining and Mineral Museum.
WINTER When snow begins to fall in Yosemite ice-skating, downhill skiing, and snowshoeing (especially in the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias) are special treats. (Rentals available.) The mountains glisten in the sun. Hiking paths in Yosemite Valley are plowed and often free of snow. Make a snowman or go sledding. Horse-drawn sleigh rides or hayrides available at Christmas just outside the park. You’ll enjoy the brisk but varying weather if you dress in layers. Days are often clear, even in winter. In Mariposa, at 2,000 ft. elevation, snow is infrequent and melts, but if you want snow you can always find it at some elevation in Yosemite Park. Bring tire chains or 4WD, but chains aren't often needed unless driving higher than Yosemite Valley.
If you're looking for a fun family vacation in a beautiful natural area, with breathtaking Sierra views and quick access to Yosemite Park's west entrance, you're sure to enjoy your stay at Butterfly Ridge Vacation Home!

We loved the property! Easy access to Yosemite plus a charming town only 6 miles away. On our first morning we were greeted by a group of deer and on the second we got up early for a gorgeous sunrise. We would stay again in a heartbeat! Thank you for the perfect end to 2018.
Great view, clean, safe and comfortable setting. Only a 10 minute drive to the local village with a supermarket. Nice patio with a great view. Gas Weber Grill in the back patio. Wash and dryer. The beds were comfortable. Everything worked. Yosemite valley is only a 45 minute drive from the home making it a perfect base from which to explore. Would stay here again.
Our family of 6 very much enjoyed our recent stay at your beautiful home. The view is stunning and the proximity to Yosemite made things very easy. We even had a family of deer greet us a couple of times on our way in and out. A great place to stay for families or individuals!
We had an amazing time at Butterfly Ridge! The house had all the creature comforts of home with an amazing view to boot. We even had deers coming by to say hello. The play room kept my little girl occupied for hours which was a bonus. Thanks so much Bruce and Magdalena for letting us stay at your amazing place. We will definitely be returning.
The property is very spacey, with a full game room and poll table. The front view is gorgeous during subset. Only thing is the two beds in small bedroom makes noise when I rolled over. And there's no basic shampoo/soap in bathroom. So make sure you bring your own toiletries when you stay.
We enjoyed our stay in this vacation home while in the area to explore Yosemite. It was comfortable, clean and well equipped. My teenage daughter thought it was one of the best VRBOs we've stayed in (and we've stayed in a number of them). There were little signs around the house that provided useful information on the use of the house. We enjoyed the pool table and family games too. We'll definitely look to stay there again should we find ourselves back in the area.
Thank you for a wonderful stay! Cozy house, amazing views, organized and well kept. With so much to do with little daylight, it was nice to make breakfast and go as the house has fully equipped kitchen. And having 2 very active children, there was plenty for them to do once it got dark: books, toys, chess and a pool table. Owners were extremely helpful, responded to all the questions in a timely manner. Thank you for the Christmas tree - Santa came to visit and the children were in awe. Thank you for everything. We wish you a successful 2018!"
The property was just as represented. The house was very comfortable, with everything needed to feel at home. The back fenced in yard was lovely with its grape arbor, and the view from the front was inspiring. We loved the pool table, which was a fun activity. In all, our stay was most enjoyable!
My husband and I are moving from CA to PA, and this was our first stop along our journey cross country. There have been some bumps along the way...although this beautiful property made everything ok. We were able to drive into Yosemite, 45 mins, and take in the beauty it has to offer. The market for groceries was about 7 miles away...perfect. We ended up staying for 2 more nights to relax before continuing our journey. We would like to thank the owners for being so accessible by phone, and appreciate you allowing us to rent your home for 2 additional nights. Check out the the beautiful sunrise, the starry sky, and enjoy the tranquil view. We definitely recommend staying here.
Thank you so much for your nice review. We are glad we could make arrangements so you could extend your stay. We wish you a safe trip all the way to PA. If you are ever planning to return to beautiful California we'd love to have you back!
Our family of four stayed at the Butterfly Ridge vacation home this past summer. The accommodations were great and very spacious. You could easily book this home for a two family vacation. The views from the front of the house are amazing! We ate and hung out on the the outdoor table numerous times! It is located only minutes away from Mariposa and Yosemite and just a short drive up the road. Last but not least, we enjoyed playing their great collection of games!
Thank you for your nice review, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay! You are welcome back any time!
We stayed at this home during the Labor Day Weekend with the plan to visit Yosemite National Park. We brought our dog, which was great. Plenty of space, loved that we could do laundry before leaving, and the best entertainment in the house was the pool table. The kids loved it! Very private, but 10-15 minutes into town (Mariposa) for grocery shopping or dining. It was a long drive to Yosemite NP but it was our first time visiting. Would visit agai.nhanks!
Thank you - we are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Butterfly Ridge Vacation Home! We'd love to have you back. Just to clarify for future renters: the distance to Yosemite Park's west entrance is 29 miles. During the summer months or holidays it's a good idea to leave early in the morning in order to avoid the crowds when entering the park.
We love the place. Simple and adequate for our family of four. The view is beautiful in the morning, We left around 10 am and came back 11 pm everyday when we were there. We were excited seeing deer every night driving back from town. The pool room was perfect for family games before going to bed. I would have given it 5 stars if it was not for the early checkout time/check-out list. Check out time is 10am. We had to get up around 7am to pack and go through check-out list. All the places that we stayed the check out time are either 11 or 12 and all we had to do is dump our trash, turn off utilities and lock the doors. It was confusing for what the owner wants us to do. Cleaning all the dishes? Washing the linens? I did not think we could have done the best job of cleaning for the next guests. So we decided just to put all the used linens there on the beds and the dishes in the dishwasher. We hope that the cleaning people will see that and clean them for us.
We're glad you enjoyed your stay at Butterfly Ridge Vacation Home. We appreciate your feedback and have now changed the check-out time to 10:30 AM. It's the latest checkout we can offer due to a cleaning crew that sometimes cleans more than one vacation home a day (and getting all laundry done is time consuming). We also changed the wording of the check-out check list, so guests will understand more clearly that the requests made are not mandatory. We ask guests to strip all used beds of linens. (If we don't ask that, some guests actually make the bed with the dirty linens inside. We want it to be clear that the bed was used.) Regarding the dishes, we are only ever asking people to load/start the dishwasher and clear the sink area. Future guests: if you have questions or concerns at any time before, during, or after your stay, we are just a phone call, text or email away, and very responsive.
This is a nice home, well equipped and comfortable, with lots of privacy and a beautiful broad view of the mountains. Since we were there in August, the lack of shade on the outdoor spaces meant that we could not sit outdoors between early morning and evening. But in all, an enjoyable place with a good location for visiting Yosemite and the charming town of Mariposa.
Thank you for your positive comments. To clarify the outdoor shade: The outdoor dining table on the front patio does have a large sun umbrella. The back side of the house points north, so it does have shade all along the back sidewalk of the house until the afternoon. In the evening hours, there is shade on a portion of the front patio where the house juts out facing east, blocking the sun. So, if a person is willing to move the chairs as needed, shade can be found at any time of the day. We also have plans to install a shaded pergola over a patio in the back yard in the coming months.
This place is great. Very clean, spacious and comfortable. We had three adults in our group and having so much space was wonderful. The beds are very comfortable. Two bathrooms always nice. Fully equipped kitchen helps to save money, much appreciated. A car is a must as the place is up in the hills near Mariposa (lots of curvy mountain roads). Took less than one hour to get into Yosemite (early start recommended). Owners kept us informed about a wildfire in the area (not a problem thankfully). Definitely recommend this place!
Beautiful view, boys enjoyed the pool table, kitchen had everything we needed, spacious garage made loading and unloading easy, large cooler and ice packs was an added bonus. Entry and departure directions were clear and easy to follow. Everything was neat and orderly. Just as described on VRBO. No surprises here.
For our family cross-country trip that was beginning with Yosemite, we wanted a nice place that was not a hotel and felt like "home". We were not disappointed. There was plenty of room for 5 (which is not an easy thing for 5 people - parents and three teenagers) - with the sofabed, we could have easily had three more people there without any problems. The view from the front patio area was wonderful. The house was clean, had everything we needed, and truly felt like a "home". If we ever come back to this area, we will definitely consider this again. THANK YOU!!
The house is very comfortable and well equipped. Great for family with kids. Beautiful vista view. A bit of a drive into Yosemite. Mariposa is close and has a grocery store, restaurants, and shopping which is very convenient. We would stay here again. I only rated 4 star because of the distance to Yosemite. Overall quality and rating is 5 star.
Thanks Pam, for your positive review! Regarding the distance of this home from Yosemite Park: It is correctly advertised as 29 miles from this home to the west entrance station. Then, from the entrance station to the Yosemite Valley Loop Rd. where you enter the valley is another 7 miles. The drive to the entrance station can be done in as little as 45 minutes if a person leaves early, by 6 or 7 a.m. (That's what I recommend in the summer.) The volume of vehicles trying to enter the park increases steadily later in the day and can get backed up in places, especially in the busiest summer months. This home is closer to the west entrance than the majority of Mariposa vacation rentals. There are some closer vacation rentals that are actually inside Yosemite Park, but most of them are also a substantial distance from the Yosemite Valley, have much less privacy, and are at least twice as expensive.
Thank you for renting us this gorgeous home. We had an amazing stay. Great views from the patio and the dinning area. The night sky is simply mesmerizing. 140 was closed due to rock slide when we went. The owner left notes on getting to south entrance to Yosemite valley. We enjoyed every bit of it. Lots of board games to keep everyone occupied.
While the villages in Yosemite Valley are teaming with visitor chaos everywhere, this house is surrounded by tranquility and a beautiful view. Our family of 4 had plenty of space to spread out or be together either at one of the tables or on comfortable chairs in the living room. Although it takes an hour to drive into Yosemite Valley, this is one of the closest home rentals to the National Park. The kitchen is plenty spacious and well equipped.
The location is great, away from city. The house has everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay for a family. Awesome views, if you get lucky with the clear weather - you can get a perfect view of night sky with almost no light pollution. The wind chimes ringing in the night can be a bit spooky :). For the property managers - The checkout time is 10am, the list of TODOs in checkout list can be a bit overwhelming to read for a family - too much to finish off before 10am.
Thank you. We're glad that you enjoyed Butterfly Ridge Vacation Home. Any guest can feel free to take down wind chimes if they become a bother. They are hanging from simple hooks and can be removed in seconds. The checkout time of 10 am allows for the home to be thoroughly cleaned and maintained before the next renters arrive at 3:30 pm the same day. The checkout checklist items are not mandatory. They are stated as suggestions only and renters are not required to do them.
The house is great on its own without the view but the view is cherry on top. Great living room and kitchen. The game room is very nice. The bedrooms are great. The backyard is amazing. I almost forgot to spend time in the front with the view because the backyard is just so relaxing to sit in with the grapevines and hillside. I will definitely try and stay here again my next trip to the area.
View was amazing. Location was perfect. House was dated somewhat, but had no effect on stay. Not a negative. The Honey bees pollinating the front bushes was really cool. They just buzzed around without a care. Definitely would stay again
This stay was perfect for me and the house was totally clean and organized with all the amenities you could need during a cold and rainy winter. The owners have thought of everything, every little detail to make your stay comfortable and stress free. Oh, and the view is spectacular! I enjoyed my stay so much that I will be back again and again. Thank you so much to the owners for all the kindness, thoughtfulness and detail you put into making my stay enjoyable. Lina M
Our family had a wonderful time celebrating Christmas here. We enjoyed the pool table, Jenga, the TV, and most importantly, the amazing kitchen! We’re thankful for the hospitality we received from the owners and for their sharing this wonderful house. Coming back from majestic Yosemite, the house was a place of much needed rest and warmth. How can I describe it? This place just felt like …. home. PS: From here, we saw Orion, Gemini, Taurus. Beautiful!
We really enjoyed this beautiful home. Thank you for having everything we needed. Sunrise in the morning and sunset in the evening were also beautiful along with the view! Perfect place for us to do some exploring in Yosemite. If we ever come back we will stay again. Thank you!
This is the perfect getaway for a family. The view is absolutely beautiful!!!! It was so nice to be able to enjoy such a breathtaking view every morning. My 6 and 12 year old had a great time. It really helped that there is a pool table and a game console. My 6 year old daughter really enjoyed the board games. The local market was wonderful because they are fully stocked with everything you need. The house is very clean and stocked with everything one needs to be comfortable. It was truly an enjoyable place to stay. I'm looking forward to going back soon and being able to enjoy a nice BBQ!!!!
House was set up great. House seems to be mostly a rental, so there is great signage on everything and notes. The backyard was amazing, I didn't know from the pictures that the back is completely fenced, it was perfect for a doggie vacation. The views are worth every penny of the price. I did not see one person the whole time on the property, which was just what I needed (you can hear neighbors working occasionally). I will stay again. Such a peaceful house.
Had a blast! My friends and I stayed here for a couple of nights. Loves how it was a lone house and amazing morning view. As soon as you wake up, make your coffee, go outside & relax to enjoy the beautiful view. Owners were super nice and got everything ready for us. We are considering of coming back next year. (:
We were very happy at the house. It was an ideal place for mountain views, starry skies, and wildlife and the management was helpful. The kids loved the toys and games and the wifi worked well despite storms while we were there, for the most part. The house was well stocked with linens and appliances were in good working order. In general very well maintained and with good signage around the house. It was roomy and we easily fit the blow up bed in the rec room. An easy 45 minute drive to Yosemite even with a road work detour and 10 or 15 minutes to Mariposa. (Pioneer market was well stocked despite being the only store in a small town, with reasonable prices and friendly service.) Our deposit was refunded in a very timely manner. We had only a few small complaints: the water pressure and heat in the main bathroom were not great so the tub took forever to fill, often didn't get hot at all, and we would recommend using the other shower. Other than that, the kitchen was well-stocked with all manner of cooking equipment EXCEPT baking pans. If you'll be making cakes, casseroles or similar buy some disposable pans to bring with because one roaster and a couple cookie sheets aren't going to cut it. We couldn't get the PlayStation to work but didn't really miss it. Overall we highly recommend this house and would gladly stay here again.
Thank you for letting us know about the water pressure in the bathroom. We are happy to be able to tell you that this has now been fixed. Also, Play Station is working fine again, and we purchased another casserole dish. We appreciate your feedback!
House is on top of the ridge- great view, can see both sunrise and a sunset. Very roomy, plenty of space. There is a pool table in the third room- had fun learning to play. The heater was broken, but owner informed us promptly and provided air heaters which were quite efficient and it was worm and comfortable. Next time we go to Yosemite this house would me my first choice to book.
My husband and I brought our 1 year old son with us for a stay near Yosemite and we really enjoyed staying at this home. They had amenities not only for us but also for the baby (they have a high chair, a pack n play and a play area with a small "racetrack" for matchbox cars). The drive to Yosemite from here is easy and comfortable. The best part about this house is the view from the front patio! Perfect place for a sunset dinner or sunrise cup of coffee. The date we stayed for the weekend was also the date of the Supermoon Lunar eclipse which was really special. For you photographers, professional and amateur alike, this is an amazing spot for nighttime photography. There is virtually no light pollution at night and the photos we took were great! (Not amazing, we fall under the amateur category hehe). Stargazing is a must during your stay here. We loved it and we'd love to come back one day for our next trip to Yosemite. Thanks again!
This house was well equipped and very comfortable. Everything you need, plus things you don't think of are provided. Beautiful panoramic view with incredible sunsets. Easy to get into Mariposa to enjoy dining and take care of shopping needs. The only thing that could improve the property would be if it were located closer to Yosemite, but we knew it was 45 minutes to get to the gate, and that's closer than most of the houses we researched. The distance problem seems to be the norm with Yosemite....it's just such a huge National Park. We would definitely recommend Butterfly Ridge to anyone visiting the area.
The house is very nice, clean and well-appointed. We really enjoyed our morning coffee and the cool evenings on the patio with such a beautiful view. We were treated to an amazing lightning show on Saturday night too! Also, there were some strange animal noises in the bushes for a couple of days that we think were fighting foxes… Lots of deer down the hill too! Thank you!
This was a wonderful vacation home and made our time at Yosemite very enjoyable. The view is breathtaking. The home was exceptionally clean and had everything you could think of - from dishes, pots and pans, to games, bikes and cooler for travelling. Loved the pool table. I would definitely return or recommend this home to a friend.
Thank you for sharing your home with us! We had a great stay … so peaceful, so taking you away from it all! Stars at night, beautiful sunrises, and evenings. And thank you for being so thoughtful of all the everyday things we need in a house - all was there. We hope to be back. Not enough time to hike all we wanted in Yosemite, not enough time to enjoy the evenings and mornings, the beautiful place you have. Thank you!
May 24-26, 2015 Thank you for allowing us to spend time in your beautiful home! The view is one of a kind and not to mention the serenity which was much needed after being in the city. Clean and comfortable are two words that come to mind, very important :-) 10/10. Would stay again! Christine and David, Denver, CO
We just can't say enough about this house! We came as a family of 7. We were skeptic as to whether the pictures were deceiving? Was the house clean? Is it as peaceful as the description depicts it? YES, YES & YES! Magdelena & Bruce thought of EVERYTHING & I mean EVERYTHING! Down to helmets and little coolers for your picnics. The kids...awe heck all of us enjoyed the games, pool table, etc! Did I mention the views...just WOW! This place is central to 2 gates into Yosemite. One day we did Merced river, El Capitan & Glacier Point off the 140 and the next day we did Bass Lake, SugarPine Railroad & Mariposa Grove Sequioas all off the 41. Really enjoyed our stop at the Mariposa Coffee company (Cool couple that owns 40 acres & made us feel at home. Kids had a blast!) I consider myself incredibly thorough and by all means, this place met it all. All I had to do is sit back & enjoy my family....I can't thank you enough for that! We'll definitely be back!
We had a great stay here at Butterfly Ridge. The house was very comfortable, and we loved the pool table. The view was stunning. Everything was taken into consideration to make our stay all the more enjoyable. The rooms were nice and big. The kitchen was large and very easy to maintain. Thank you for sharing your lovely house with us and giving us the ideal time here in Yosemite.
Our family of four stayed at Butterfly Ridge this summer. It is big enough, plenty of space, but also comfortably small. The home is very clean and fully equipped. There are games, toys, some movies and a pool table. The sunset, moonrise and sunrise are a must see from the patio. The managers are professional and kind. We received our deposit back in the mail in just a few short days. The location is within an hour of Yosemite and about 15 minutes from Mariposa. Mariposa is a sweet, friendly town that is host to little shops, restaurants and a couple places to taste and buy local and regional wines.
Jess, We're glad that you had a good time! It was nice to meet you and your wonderful family. Since you mentioned that it was about an hour drive to Yosemite Park, I just want to clarify for other travelers: Butterfly Ridge Vacation Home is only 29 miles from the Yosemite Park west entrance station along Hwy.140. Many times of the year this drive is easily done in 45 min. In June-August there are the most park visitors and the drive could take longer. Then there may be a wait at the park entrance to pay and enter. Once entering, it is a 7 mile drive along the scenic Merced River before entering Yosemite Valley loop road and starting to see waterfalls, El Capitan, etc. Jess, thank you for your 5-star review. We look forward to seeing you again! All the best! Bruce (Property Manager)
We had a WONDERFUL stay at Butterfly Ridge! The place was immaculate, well-equipped, and spacious. Loved the view - we were so relaxed with leisurely breakfasts and reading on the patio and under the beautiful gazebo and we practiced our pool/gaming skills with your assortment of games at night. An easy drive to Yosemite and the perfect place to come home to at night and unwind. Hope to return sometime. Thanks for everything!
The house was a lovely base to explore Yosemite and Mariposa. The kids watched The Lord of the Rings trilogy after spending the day in Yosemite hiking. The weather was a nice change from the 100's we were having. We loved the view out front, especially with a cup of coffee in the morning and stargazing at night! Speaking of coffee … you should seek out Mariposa Coffee Co. (approx. 9 mile south of Mariposa on hwy 49). We picked up fresh roasted beans and had them ground for us there. We loved Sugar Pine Cafe for breakfast. We had a great stay! Thank you!
We had a great time during our 3 nights stay, and our little ones (17-month-old twins) enjoyed the safety place, too. Nice view and clean. It almost has everything we need and we got our grocery at Vons in Oakhurst on our way to this pretty vacation house. Thanks again, Magdalena and Bruce for this amazing place.
Great family house. The home has all of the amenities a family needs, very roomy, and plenty of amusement for the kids. Bruce was at the home upon our arrival, showed us around and made sure we were comfortable before he left. He had to return to fix an issue with the satellite TV remote the next day and made sure the timing didn't conflict with our schedule. Beautiful drive up to a secluded, quiet home. A drive from the Yosemite gate, but a great value.
We had adults and children staying in this home and it was perfect! Game player, books, movies, and board games for all ages... Pool table, nice kitchen open to the living room ! We enjoyed sitting outside the most at night staring at the stars. It is a drive up a few steep turns, but we had a large SUV and no problems. The owner has great communication both via email and phone and answered promptly with any questions I had. I would definitely refer and stay here again. It is past Mariposa a few miles toward Yosemite so maybe 45 minutes to the park!
we have 6 people and totally all of us enjoy the trip. The view from the property is just purely spetacular. Quit, peceful and top mountain view with all the games and fully equiped kitchen and living room, literally, you don't need to bring anything there. The owner is a very nice guy as well. Overall, take it while it's still available, you won't regret!
The home was nicely equipped, clean and spacious! After spending the day in Yosemite, we thoroughly enjoyed eating dinners on the patio and relaxing with awesome views of the Sierras and the sunset (and later the stars). The grape vines in the back are breathtaking and we saw several deer attempting to get some snacks during our stay! The location was one of the closest we found to the Yosemite valley and the drive was beautiful along the the Merced. Billy (the owner) was very helpful and efficient to work with.
We stayed here while visiting both Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks on our Wedding Anniversary vacation. It was a good centralized location for our sightseeing. The house is very private and quiet … perfect for unwinding at the end of a busy day. The home is spacious and simply furnished. We particularly enjoyed breakfast under the grape arbor. The town of Mariposa is cute and has a lot of options for groceries and dining out. The property owner was easy to work with and we appreciated how easily the payment system worked. The only things we missed were more pots, pans and utensils (corkscrew, etc.) in the kitchen and Wifi for internet access. Otherwise it was a perfect place to rest our heads while enjoying the beautiful scenery in this part of California.
Thank you for your comments and constructive criticisms. I just sent more kitchen supplies on July 26. Wifi is live, and Satellite TV on 9/1. We try our best to make sure our guests have enjoyable experience with us.
This rental has many nice extras and is very comfortable and welcoming. Not only was it very clean, much of it looks brand new. Our young adults enjoyed the pool table and we all enjoyed watching blu-ray movies on the large flat screen TV. Great selection of high quality videos for all ages. We were lucky to be there on moonless nights. It was so dark outside that we could see the milky way in a beautiful sky. Fantastic view from the house of the Sierra foothills for miles around. We enjoyed the nearby CA State Mining and Mineral Museum and convenience to Yosemite. The availability of wifi in the house was really handy. The owners have been very responsive and helpful.
Home is 45 minutes from Yosemite El Portal entrance and 1 hr 10 min from Yosemite Valley. The kitchen could use more basic utensils (e.g. cookie sheets, grater, mixing bowls, 1 and 2 - quart sauce pans, wisk, serving spoons, serving bowls); as well as more place settings, more silverware, more glassware to reduce the number of times you have to run the dishwasher. We left a wine opener for future guests. Suggest you bring basic cooking spices since there's only sugar, salt and pepper. Beds were comfortable, but more pillows are needed in master (not everyone likes to sleep on Theramapedic pillows). Also suggest adding another lamp to master room for bedside reading. Loveseat in living room - no sofa. Good selection of board games. No cable TV (real bummer since its a nice TV), so bring your laptop/iPad if you want to read/view the news/current events. Washer/dryer is a plus. Suggest owner leave a list of things to do in Mariposa and surrounding area; as well as a list of instructions (e.g. how to run the AC/water cooler; portable grill in garage; whether it's okay to park in garage; etc).
I am the property owner. We are new to the vacation rental and always take our guests suggestion seriously and constantly make improvements to the house. Our kitchen equipments are on par with most vacation rentals in the area. More kitchen supplies will be delivered to the house before the end of July. Satellite TV will be available on Sep 1. In the meanwhile, I have provided blurays and dvds for entertainment. Our garage is clean and clutter free. I always provide the garage code to our guests for you to conveniently park your car. Some of your issues were never communicated to me during your stay. Please note that I have posted my personal cell phone number in the house. The professional cleaning company I hired is just 15 minutes away. I am very responsive to phone call, voicemails and emails. I always try my best to accomodate your needs.
Leaving the busy and crowed city, we have spent a 3-days vacation at this nice and tidy house located around the historic Mariposa county and beautiful Yosemite natural area. As located on a mountainscape, the front yard presented us a grand mountain panorama as well as phenomenal starnight view. Providing nearly all of the life necessities, which does not happened in hotels, the house really gave us a feeling of staying at home. Great fun was enjoyed with various entertainment including board games, video games, DVD player and the pool table. We found a lot of treasure at the antique and gift shops in the nearby Mariposa county which is a historic landmark of California State. You can learned a lot about the gold rush history by visiting several museums there. Dining at the town is also convenient since you have a lot of choices such as American, Mexican, Chinese restaurants. Thank you again for providing us with such a satisfactory vacation. Next time we will definitely come back again to try the grapes planted at the backyard which we didn't have a chance to taste.
