Sierra Luxury Log Home is mid-way between the towns of Mariposa and Oakhurst, conveniently located for driving either to the south entrance (35 miles) or the west entrance (41 miles) of Yosemite National Park. You'll want to use both entrances. The Yosemite Valley and many of the main attractions of the park, including Half Dome, El Capitan and Tuolumne Meadow, are most easily accessed through the west entrance. At the south entrance is the amazing Mariposa Grove with its hundreds of giant sequoia trees and miles of hiking trails among them. Also near the south entrance, enjoy a gourmet meal at the nearby historic and charming Wawona Hotel or its BBQ picnic on the lawn each summer Saturday night. There is an easy and shady 3.2 mile loop hike just across the street, around the Wawona Golf Course and a flowering meadow, and incredible natural swimming and wading spots in the nearby river. Bass Lake (23 miles from the home) is a worthwhile side trip on your way home from the south entrance or a wonderful all-day destination. Dine at Ducey's overlooking the lake after a comfortable swim from one of the lake's many sandy beaches. Boats of all kinds can be rented by the hour or the day.
There are dozens of amazing things to see and do in this beautiful area of the Sierra Nevada mountains and foothills, from zip lines to rides on a historic steam railroad, interesting museums, musical events, and hiking and biking trails galore. We detail dozens of interesting things to see and do on our own website and are happy to answer your questions to help you plan your trip.
Please note: The Mariposa Grove is currently closed for renovations until 2017. Giant sequoia trees can be seen at the Tuolumne Grove in Yosemite until the Mariposa Grove reopens.

"Thank you very much from all of us. The cabin was very beautiful and has helped provide many wonderful memories. The summer of 2017 will be remembered as the summer the family enjoyed Yosemite, Bass Lake and the cabin."
We were a group of 13 for our yearly family reunion. It was such a great house with all the amenities you need. Plenty of towels, blankets, linens, places to sleep, games, and so on. The fold out couch downstairs uses air and it deflated at night. So bring your own air mattress. They had plenty of fold out mattress pads that people said were comfortable. The stairs going down are a bit slippery since there's a spiral spot down and people had slipped. We really enjoyed our time here but the one problem was that there was a fire near by (between this house and Mariposa) that took out the power and from 3pm to 8pm, we had no AC, no way to call out since landlines were down and no cell reception (we had att, sprint and verizon) so we had to send out a person around 5 and again at a little before 8pm) There was no running water, so no one could go to the restrooms or wash hands, etc. so for the 5 hours, it was pretty uncomfortable. I understand though that it's not something the property can control but it seems the power outage is common - even with the solar power. Despite that, it was unanimous that we'd definitely come back to this property again!
Thank you for your overall positive review. I'd like to respond to some issues that were raised: First of all, I'm sorry that you never informed me, during your stay, of an air leak problem with the inflatable mattress on the downstairs sleeper couch, which never presented a problem in the past. I would have been happy to come over at your convenience to find the leak and fix it. I did see your note about it after your stay. The mattress is fixed now and holding air again. Thank you for pointing out that the landline phones at this home all plug into power and therefore do not work during a power outage. I will remedy that right away, by adding a phone that doesn't require power to make calls. Actually power outages are not common in the area, especially for an extended period. The fire you refer to was about 8 miles from this home. I don't know if the power outage was related. I'm sorry that you were inconvenienced by that. (By the way, the ground-mounted solar array is "passive solar". It is tied into the power grid and does not charge on-site batteries, so it doesn't help in a power outage.) You described the interior stairs as having a "spiral spot" where someone fell. You must be referring to the fact that there is a landing halfway down where the stairs take a 90 degree turn. Prospective renters can be assured that this is simply a normal fully-carpeted set of stairs, of normal width, with walls on both sides and railings. It is not unusually slippery or dangerous. If someone were to fall while using it I would caution them to simply slow down and pay more attention when using it.
"We really enjoyed spending time together as a scattered family (CO, WA, IL) in this warm and welcoming home. We were able to easily get to Yosemite and also went to the Nelder Grove, thanks to shortcuts and info left in the basket. House is very clean with lots of space for getting together and spreading out. Setting is beautiful. Kitchen is more than adequately stocked for cooking meals. Very quick responses to any questions or concerns. Thanks much! Judy S. and family"
We had a wonderful time over Easter weekend with a family of 10 ranging from age 12 to 86. Everything was well labeled and well stocked. We had fun calling the wild turkeys in the morning and enjoyed the lovely deck for relaxing and reading. Would definitely love to return to this beautiful home.
The house is well laid out and very comfortable. We went in the spring and the weather was warm with a little rain. The dirt road held up very well and the cabin was cozy. The grounds are well maintained and the area is very quiet. A perfect family get-away.
We all wish to thank you for such a beautifully located, designed, well kept home situated in paradise. We enjoyed the view and tranquility, the well stocked kitchen, and sleeping accommodations. We will recommend your incredible home to our friends and family. We feel refreshed and ready to face the world again!! Sincerely~
Due to multiple family loses over the last year and the ensuing work dealing with estates, me and my wife REALLY needed a vacation to just relax and unwind. I'm so glad I booked this property as it was exactly what we needed. It was spotless upon arrival and clear instructions were provided at booking on how to get there and get into the property and there was also a binder with instructions about everything at the property once we got there. It's about 16 miles outside of downtown Mariposa and because of the gravel/dirt road and driveway you need to drive on, don't bring your Porsche or anything like that unless you don't mind running it on that kind of surface. Just thought I'd mention that as I almost brought my ZL1 up but instead brought my Colorado which was the right choice. We spent most of our time lounging around watching a bit of TV or we were on the back balcony watching the squirrels, the turkey family and the occasional deer doing their thing while listening to the wonderful wind chime. We BBQ'd a couple of times but found ourselves at Happy Burger Diner as well as Salvador's. Both are pretty good and worth checking out. However, the home is very well equipped if you just want to bring your own food and not go into town. It's a fairly short drive to Yosemite which we did one day. Keep in mind that getting there is part of the experience so just enjoy the scenery along the way and don't worry about when you're getting there. Be sure to spend some time in Mariposa as it's a wonderful town. The people there are friendly and welcoming. It reminds me of when I lived in Mammoth many years ago. The nice people that wave at you as you drive by even though they don't know you. Your cell phone will probably not work here which was actually very nice. The internet was not working no matter what we tried but again, no big deal as we were there to relax. I did contact The Beall's when we got home about the internet and received a prompt reply that they would look into it. My guess it's the router which is about 13 years old but again...this property just begs you to go low/no tech and just relax. Try it...it's nice. Overall, this is a great property for a couple to just relax or for a group of people as there is plenty of space. The Beall's were wonderful to deal with and we look forward to going back again. Thank you very much Magdalena and Bruce! We came back very relaxed and refreshed.
This property has almost everything that you need such as entertainment equipment and cooking equipment. Good signs and directions. The only down point for us was the 10:00AM early check out.
We are really glad you enjoyed your stay and we appreciate your kind words. I just would like to add that we did change the check out time for these guests to 10:30 am and they were ready to leave at that time, which we very much appreciated. We are considering changing the check out time to 10:30 am. Magdalena Beall, manager
Thank you so much for opening your home for us. The house is beautiful and fully furnished. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and the wildlife. The home was fully stocked up. Every washroom, kitchen, laundry room - you name the item and you could find it. We had kids and they enjoyed the air hockey table, books and board games. The internet was not working for a little bit and we called Bruce and he got us back in time and it was taken care of. Many, many thanks.
We've been staying in VRBO's each year for a family gather now for about 10 years and this one has certainly hit the spot for accommodating the family. There were 3 bedrooms for the adults and plenty of room downstairs for the kids to sleep. They had a private bath for each set of adults and one for the kids to use. There were plenty of toys and games to keep the little ones busy. The house was well stocked with everything needed from dishes to pans, to soaps and towels. We truly enjoyed staying at this beautiful place and had a great time making memories for the family to last a lifetime.
We had a wonderful time at the house, it is really lovely. We are sorry to be going. It was well equipped with everything we needed. A great place to use as a base to explore the area. Would recommend to others and would come back again. Thank you!
Thank you! We are so glad you had a good time! Just to clarify for future guests - this was not a party of 40 girls! It was just the nick name used by the guest.
Your home was a GREAT place for our family to get together for a glorious week at Yosemite. The house was well equipped and large enough to accommodate all of our needs. We enjoyed star-gazing as we all are from cities. Thank you for sharing your home.
The cabin was very clean, very spacious, so very comfortable and beautifully decorated. We were 3 couples and had plenty enough space to have our own private areas. The kitchen is very well stocked with anything you'll need to cook meals. It was farther from Yosemite than I expected, but well worth the drive to and from the park. We woud definitely stay there again.
We loved staying at this beautiful home and property. Mariposa is a lovely little town to visit as well. Yosemite is about 1-1/2 hours drive but well worth it for a day trip. The kitchen was amazing and the home is very comfortable and spacious for 6 adults and 1 baby but would very nice for a larger group as well. We played several games from the game closet and there was a great selection! The only thing we did not know about was no cell service in the home. It may have been stated somewhere and we did not read it. It would have been very good to know so we could have purchased a phone card and used the house phone. We have Verizon and we've never had it not work. We had several people trying to reach us (house sitting our homes/family) so we could have told everyone in advance about no cell service. There is internet and it worked the majority of the time we were there. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home. We had a GREAT time! Everything was clean and well maintained. Bruce and Magdalena responded quickly when we booked and had questions and they refunded our security deposit quickly. The best customer service we have ever had when renting a home! We would recommend renting this home! Thank you! Lori and Jerry
Hi Lori and Jerrry, We are really glad you enjoyed staying at Sierra Luxury Log Home. Regarding cell phone reception, we mention on the VRBO/HomeAway listing that reception is poor due to the mountains surrounding the home. We have now added that information to the last email we send out to guests before their arrival. On a practical note, they do sell calling cards in Mariposa too. There is also limited long distance available on the landline phone. Once again, we are glad you had a good time!
I do not write constructive criticism reviews of sub-standard properties (there are many out there) anymore. The reason? It is my understanding that VRBO/HOMEAWAY keeps all reviews written by an individual, and makes them available to owners. If owners see that you have written ANY critical reviews in the past.......many will not respond to requests for information. Therefore, I only write reviews on exceptional homes.........ones that deserve FIVE STARS. This home is newer, well maintained, CLEAN, QUIET, COMFORTABLE, and located in an exceptionally beautiful setting. Most importantly though, this home has an outstanding husband/wife management team. This will make all the difference in the world if you have any problems. THEY ARE EXCEPTIONALLY PLEASANT TO DEAL WITH. In summary, this is a five star rental. The pictures and write-up are accurate. The main problem you may have..........finding a time when the house isn't rented! Happy travels!
February 19-21, 2016 Had a wonderful time in your beautiful house. My 2 year old grandson had so much fun running and playing. It was too short of a time. It must be just magical to be here for a week or so. Thank you again for a beautiful home to relax in. Lots of memories. Also loved the town of Mariposa, much more to do compared to Groveland which is where we also stay. Definitely great time! Raya and family, California
Thank you for a blessed and wonderful stay! Our family had a perfect time … exploring, playing, naming the exotic wall mounts - they are our “pets” now - straight out of Narnia :-) They - our 6 kiddos - had many adventures and snuggled into the soft beds and comforts of home. The house was sooo clean when we arrived - loved it! Many wonderful memories ~
A perfect place for a quiet getaway and quality family time. Kids and adults all loved going for nature walks and then relaxing in the spa. A cup of coffee on the deck is the best way to see the sunrise in this beautiful setting. The cabin was more than comfortable and my 3 year old did not want to leave. We all felt the cabin was incredibly beautiful inside and out. Such a blessing for us to be able to enjoy some time here. Thank you for opening your cabin to us! God Bless!
Happy New Year! Beautiful surroundings and a beautiful “lodge!” What a shame that I couldn’t meet Magdalena (and Bruce!). Maybe next time? God’s blessing for 2016. Johanna Thank you Magdalena and Bruce. All three families loved your home. We can’t wait to come back. Sharon and the gang
Absolutely loved it! Built many memories and we hope to come back soon! Your cabin is well equipped with nice amenities. It was great meeting the managers and we appreciate their great response time. We felt the sense of family!! Thanks for everything! And thank you for the Christmas Spirit! Love~
Thank you for sharing your home with us this weekend. My roommate Caroline, our friend Ruth and I are all from South Carolina - we are currently living in L.A. We so enjoyed a cabin weekend - we’ve missed “real winter.” Yosemite had a beautiful snowfall and we felt like it was a perfect Christmas weekend. The cabin was even decorated for Christmas. It was perfect! Thanks!
This was a very clean, large, nice lodge home. Master bedroom was very nice. Would have liked to see another master suite on main level with cable tv as we were two couples staying here. Kitchen very large and spacious with everything that you would need to cook your meals there. Very nice living room and deck. Home is located approx an hour from Yosemite entrance, however most attractions are located another 30 minutes into the park so keep that in mind when you choose for proximity to Yosemite. The managers were very easy to work with and very accommodating. We loved this place except for its distance from attractions in the park. Plan on a three hour round trip commute when traveling to the park.
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful house with us. We loved our time here. We have never seen a rental house as well equipped as yours. Thank you~ Loved Sierra Luxury Log Home and will be back! This place is beautiful and very well stocked. (Also - beds are very comfortable!) Thank you for sharing your home. Best regards~ PS: Would love to learn more about the animals! Is that an Oryx over the stairs?
We chose to stay at the Sierra Luxury Lodge as a retreat for my research group and it was wonderful. It is located within a good distance of both Mariposa (which is old and quaint and has just about anything you would need) and Oakhurst (which has more modern amenities). It's a pretty quick ride into Yosemite, and we loved that there were ample bedrooms and bathrooms and the kitchen is amazingly well-stocked. We particularly enjoyed the hot tub. The managers were very responsive, accommodating and friendly. Loved it and would recommend it without reservations!
This place is beautiful. For someone who lives in the city far away from anything scenic, this cabin definitely provided me with everything I was hoping for in a weekend surrounded by nature. It was very nicely decorated, well equipped with anything that comes to mind, whether it's for the kitchen or restrooms. I sure hope I get to come back here again next year!
Lovely accommodations, well stocked, thoughtfully planned for our comfort! We felt pampered and enjoyed the luxurious feel and warm interior decorating and great location. Beautiful home and grounds - loved the starry nights, views, clean air and sunshine, quiet and natural beauty. Thank you very much for the great experience! Sincerely~
Your cabin is absolutely gorgeous! Thank you so much for every thoughtful detail you put into your vacation home for our enjoyment and comfort. The tourist information, area map with tips, board games, and books were a very pleasant surprise! We had a very peaceful and reflective three days here and made many memories that will be enjoyed for years to come. We hope to be back very soon. Thanks for the wonderful stay, we had a great time!
Thank you!!!! I wanted to write three pages about how we enjoyed the house, but I wrote a song instead: Thank you for sharing your home We will come back next time This home is now part of our family memory! Huy, CA I enjoyed the musical wind chimes! Wynn, CT Yosemite is a very special place to visit and staying at this cabin made the experience more special! After a long day in the valley, the cabin and its tranquil surroundings was a blessing. Bruce was very kind and informative about the area. He made us feel very welcome. We enjoyed our stay and definitely will come back again in the future. Jennifer, CA We loved this beautiful house! During our stay we loved exploring. We had a great stay. Thank you so much! Nadia, CA & Michelle, MD Bruce and Magdalena, As organizer of this group, everyone is happy, and so am I. This is a great place! We will come back. Thanks so much!
My large family thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It had both the feel of a luxury hotel and that of a quiet cabin getaway. Fully stocked with every comfort imaginable. From the kitchen to the impressive master bath, every need is anticipated. Beautifully/exotically decorated surrounded by acres of privacy. We enjoyed so many outdoor activities on the property itself without having to leave the property - baseball, night time frisbee, mountain biking, hiking. And when it was time to head into Yosemite, that was a short trip in to the park. We hope to return to this home in the near future!
